What is Scalp micropigmentation (SMP)?

SMP is a non-invasive and permanent solution for replicating tiny hair follicles to conceal hair loss. The pigment color matched to your hair follicles for natural-looking results. A pigment is deposited onto the scalp using specially designed equipment and microneedles. We use a custom blend black ink to better color match hair follicles. We do not use colored ink to avoid discoloration.

What is a SMP session like?

A typical SMP session is 3 hours long with breaks as needed. The first session is a very light application on the scalp to add density and assess fading. There will be a visible difference after the first session. Some clients may view the results as too light; this is a normal part of the treatment. We start with a conservative approach to assessing the results. We can always add more if needed. The second treatment is 10-14 days later and adds the majority of the density to your new look.

SMP Hair Tattoo

Unlike a traditional tattoo, the SMP procedure uses microneedles. Pain level depends on each client. However, you may experience some discomfort. This is a permanent procedure with results lasting years.

How long does SMP last?

For most clients, SMP can last about 4-6 years with recommended touchups to keep the vibrant look. Deposited pigmentation responds better to clients with a healthy immune system.

Using sunscreen on SMP will avoid pigmentation fading sooner. The ink is not deposited deep like a normal tattoo and can be removed by laser.

Meet Our SMP Artist – Jayd Hernandez

Why did you start doing SMP? – “Being pregnant with my first son, I was concerned about losing my hair like most women and began researching options of what I could do to avoid the inevitable. Through my research, I stumbled across scalp micropigmentation but didn’t see a lot of women who had had it done. I thought the treatment was extremely innovative and loved that it could provide results instantaneously and so I got trained and certified in it so that I could help other people, especially women, concerned about hair loss.

What I’ve found through working and listening to clients is that Scalp micropigmentation is a great cosmetic alternative to fibers, wigs, and hair pieces for those looking for a more permanent solution.”Jayd Hernandez
