Hair Loss After Cold Cap
Does Cold Cap Prevent Hair Loss?
The concept behind the scalp cooling system is to restrict the blood vessels attached to the hair follicles. When the blood vessels are restricted fewer chemotherapy drugs can reach the follicle. To reach effective temperatures, most cold caps or scalp cooling systems use dry ice or liquid system of below-freezing water.
There is no guarantee on how much hair you will keep.
Cold Cap Didn’t Work
Keeping your hair during chemotherapy may not work for everyone. There are occasions where you can still experience hair loss or thinning hair while using the cooling system. Along with continued hair loss – we have heard patients experience other unpleasant side effects including:
- Complete hair loss during chemotherapy
- Bald spots where the cold cap was
- Cold cap caused blisters on scalp
National Hair Loss offers Hair Recovery Programs to help those whom the cold cap didn’t work. Our chemotherapy hair loss treatments implement laser therapy to stimulate hair growth.
(National Hair Loss does not offer Cold Cap or Scalp Cooling Systems. All services are provided following treatment.)
